Facilitator – Phyllida Shaw

Phyllida Shaw has been an independent researcher, writer and facilitator, specialising in arts policy and management since 1988. Prior to this she was Research Officer for the National Campaign for the Arts, a researcher in the Greater London Council’s Arts Policy Studies Unit, and Coordinator of the Community Programme at Battersea Arts Centre. She has worked with all five Arts Councils of the British Isles, with government departments and agencies, local authorities, grant-making trusts, Arts & Business, the Higher Education Funding Council and a wide range of cultural organisations.

She has a particular interest in smaller organisations and in the different roles of artists in communities. She was arts adviser to the Baring Foundation for eleven years and continues and works regularly with three other grant-making trusts. She is an associate lecturer on the MA in Arts & Cultural Management at the University of Sussex and an associate researcher at the Cities Institute, London Metropolitan University.

She is a board member of Fabrica, a gallery in Brighton; Arts Research Ltd, publisher of Arts Research Digest; the London Centre for International Storytelling; and Ignite! a company supporting the creative development of young people through arts, science and technology.
