Biography
Matthew began his career in Australia and worked for a number of years in the Customer Services, Public Relations and Event Management fields where he developed and delivered a range of arts based activities and events within a Local Authority. During this time he initiated and coordinated a regional literary festival and a national youth music festival, both for three years. During this time he also sat as Vice Chair of a regional Arts Centre and as the Chair of a regional Writers Centre.
In 2001 Matthew relocated to the UK where he took up post as the Director of the Make Some Noise Youth Music Action Zone. Here he worked with a range of partners across a number of sectors to develop the infrastructure and music opportunities in the participatory music sector.
In May 2005 he took up post as the Chief Executive Officer of Sound It Out Community Music, a leading social development agency for the West Midlands. In this exciting and challenging role he holds the overall responsibility for the strategic and organisational development of the organisation. Within this role he represents in a management role on a number of committees, management and steering groups, and also represents the arts on the newly created Third Sector Assembly for Birmingham. He has recently completed the Common Purpose Matrix course (Birmingham), which brings together leaders across various sectors of the city in a focussed training programme.
