Katherine Rogers

Inclusion Officer, Sound it Out

Biography

Katherine Rogers is currently working as Inclusion Officer for Sound It Out Community Music where she manages the company’s challenging Inclusion Programme. This includes coordination, marketing, outreach and evaluation of arts work with refugees, asylum seekers and a wide range of other community groups.

Katherine’s arts background includes a Music Degree, an MA in Ethnomusicology and playing the clarinet and saxophone. She has a professional background as a freelance arts co-ordinator and music facilitator specialising in international arts development and working with refugees. In this capacity she has worked for a range of Midlands-based arts organisations, including working as Refugee Arts Development Coordinator for the West Midlands and as Community Projects Officer for Music for Change in Canterbury. She also has a long standing connection with ex-refugee communities in El Salvador where she initiated and continues to support Music for Hope, a music and community development project.

PLN Experience

Katherine has found involvement in the Peer Leadership Network to be a really useful experience both in sharing and discussing arts practice nationally and in Scotland and Wales, but also in receiving up to date information about relevant topics. Her study visit to Paragon International was a particular highlight as music and participation with exiled communities is a key interest for her.
